An Unforgettable Experience with Snow Buntings,

Utah Lake State Park, November 14, 2010

(Photos by Richard And Maryella)

This was too easy!! Stepping out of our car, we immediately sighted these two cute birds foraging along the roadside. Our presence close by was well tolerated!

Following the birds' activities, we were led to the water's edge at the Marina.

Both birds wandered to the water's edge...

And, here we witnessed their bathing activities, them behaving so energetic and carefree!

The day (and water) was cold; but it didn't interfere with these two carefree birds.

A Headfirst plunge!

We were astonished with this extraordinary display, being only a few feet away from the activity!

Oh, for the want of a video camera at a time like this!

Bathtime is nearly over...

Now it's time for drying off and preening...

Feet with claws come in handy for this activity

Time to dry off and meditate... and to ignore the humans with their cameras

Looking through our lenses, this is what we saw, often forgetting to snap the shutter lest we might miss something!

A slightly different pose here...

And yet another 'pose'...

We see this closeup of such a gorgeous little bird, about the size of a sparrow.

The experience of photographing these birds was unsurpassed!

The question arises: Will we ever have such a moment again?
