Mount Nebo near Delta, Utah, shrouded with early morning mist as we move down the highway to witness Snow Geese arriving at Gunnison Bend Reservoir

Hoarfrost provides a mystical appearance to the reservoir in the early morning as we wait for the snowgeese to arrive from nearby fields.

In due time the Snow Geese begin to arrive to rest safely on the water

The resting birds concentrate in areas safe from harm
Sometimes large numbers arrive, which is spectacular
At peak migration a visitor may see as many as 10,000 birds

Farmers in this area are permitted to conduct "controlled burns" on their land in preparation for planting
Usually in the afternoon after the geese have rested they all lift into the air in unison,
to feed again in the fields
This mass exodus from the water is impressive indeed, with its noise and spectacular motion!
Sunny days are best to observe this extraordinary event...
Hopefully, the visitor will be in line with the general flight pattern as birds move to the fields

Here I was fortunate to be in an excellent location as the birds descend to feed directly in front of me
This day found me in a perfect location to photograph their flight from water to a feeding area

It would seem to me that they could use a traffic cop in a situation like this...
This is only a fraction of the birds that arrived in this field one day in February
In late afternoon driving home, we again enjoyed a view of Mount Nebo, near Nephi, Utah to end a perfect day
